Official web site: http://www.jba-hp.jp/2006wbc/
Duration: July 7, 2006 to July 16, 2006
Location: Asahikawa, Japan

Who is interested in going to represent Canada?
We will still have to figure out how we select the team but chances are that less then 6 persons are actually interested. So if you are planing to go, please post here!

I'm seriously thinking about going to the japanese wbc, but no decision yet.
Maybe we could find out what the budget might be to there to help in making
a choice.

I am considering going as well. However, it all depends on whether I will still have a job at the end of this year.

yea, funds is the problem.
I will be out of a job by the end of October (Kodak bought the company I work for and layed off the whole R+D staff)
So for me it all depends on how fast I find a new job. If you know anybody needing a Research Chemist in the Vancouver area, let me know Smiley

Some additional information has been posted on the 2006 WBC in Japan.  The link is below.

http://www.jba-hp.jp/2006wbc/

To summarize the information, the dates are from July 7-16, 2006.  The cost will be ~45,000 yen which at current exchange rate equates to ~$470 CAD.  The cost includes 9 nights accomodations, 3 meals a day, and competition entry fees.  Cost is the same regardless of whether or not one decides to compete in all, any, or none of the competitions.  Canada has also been allocated 8 spots (6 for a team + 2 additional).

plane tickets from Vancouver to Sapporo for the period are slightly above 2000 CDN$, round trip.
Anybody found a better deal? or is there a chance we can get a group rebate or similar?

I am not so sure about staying longer, personally. I have read parts of the lonely planet Japan and it seems you have know quite a bit of Japanese (Kanji signs) to get around the country easily.
Also there are not that many english speaking Japanes outside of Tokyo. So, make sure you research the country well Smiley

So far the best deal (for myself and only one stop) is 2,232.64
(incl tax)
This brings me to Sapporo and back home to Vancouver.
I have no idea how much the train from Sapporo to Asahikawa is going to cost.
However, the stay itself doesn't seem to be that expensive ~500$ for the whole duration. So 3000$ for the whole trip sounds like a reasonable budget.
I wouldn't mind staying a day or two in Tokyo but am not sure if I am up to it really.

I see quite a good chance (70%) of me going to Japan next year and would like to know where you guys are in your planning process?
Andy told me that if there is a team, he will go no matter what.
What about Emmanuel?  Ettiene? Any other interested parties?
We do have 6 spots we can fill Cheesy

I think theyre wasting their time even thinking they have a chance.  They just hosted.  If FIFAs going to go to that part of the world its impossible to see them passing over China and Australia to give it to a country that just had it already.
